Jon VanderHaar

Safety Consultant, Pinnacol Assurance

Jon VanderHaar's current role lets him focus (at least some of) his energies on things that help people to be their best. And his career has allowed him to work with Fortune 500 companies, collaborate with other industry-leading organizations, and serve on the executive board of a professional association. His studies in exercise science and biomechanics set him on a path providing industrial rehabilitation services, first at locally owned clinics and later with a national provider of occupational health services. He also conducted and directed physical abilities testing programs to match their abilities with job demands. Capturing the physical demands of jobs to guide those assessments he realized that there are job demands no person should be exposed to, and he found himself integrating ergonomics into my work. But even with the ideal workstation set-up, it’s still a person doing the work. And that person doesn’t become an ‘employee’ when they get to work; they bring all of themselves into the workplace, and a piece of the workplace leaves with them every day. To truly support employees requires a more holistic approach. He believes that he have a unique perspective to offer the Society.

John Dony

In that capacity, he led vision and strategic direction for the NSC Workplace Practice, including for thought leadership programs and offerings including the Campbell Institute, Work to Zero, SAFER, the MSD Solutions Lab, NSC Networks, and the Council’s deep array of training, survey, and consultative services. John also led a variety of other research and impact initiatives around emerging topics and issues of interest to safety & health leaders, including Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Whole Person Health & Wellbeing, ESG & sustainability, and more. John serves as a frequent speaker at conferences in North America, Europe and Asia on topics including the future of work, emerging trends in EHS, Safety Tech & AI, management systems, leadership, and leading indicators. John has previously held quality management, project management, and coalition-building positions in the communication and educational fields. He graduated from Northwestern University with a dual bachelor's degree in Sociology and English.
